GPM 003 -- Encountering New Artifacts

Encountering New Artifacts

Atlantis was once a populous, thriving city. [See AEIM 002 - History of the Ancients for more information.] As such, artifacts may represent classes as diverse as scientific research, entertainment, household tasks, or military warcraft.

All laboratories, offices, living quarters, common areas, and storage facilities were examined and any Ancient technology therein was either removed or deemed safe before the space was released for public use. There should be no unidentified artifacts or technology in any of these areas.

If, however, you find any unfamiliar Ancient technology in your living quarters or any common area, contact the Marine on patrol in your area, who will in turn contact the AT Lab.

ATA gene carriers: do not activate any artifact for the purpose of identifying it.

If no Marine is immediately available, bring the object down to to the AT Lab yourself. Label all deposited items with (1) your name and (2) where you found the item.

Notes:
  1. If the discovered artifact is emitting dangerous gases, flames, or projectiles, has rendered anyone unconscious or unwell, or has latched on to skin, contact Major John Sheppard immediately and do not touch the object. If Major Sheppard is offworld or unavailable, contact the AT Lab for emergency support.
  2. Do Not attempt to move an Ancient artifact if it appears to be warfare related. [For the purposes of this document, projectile weapons, munitions and incendiary devices, and any sort of restraints or other subjugating tools are classified as warfare artifacts.]
  3. If the artifact affects the environment in any manner beyond turning on/off lights, leave the area immediately. Examples are not restricted to changes in room dimensions, oxygen levels, radiation levels, or air pressure.

If you would like a report on the object once it is identified and cataloged, you must indicate such when turning in the artifact. Later inquiries, except in the case of military or medical department follow-ups, will not be met. With the quantity of artifacts arriving at the AT Labs daily, it is impossible to keep track of which personnel deposited which artifact on a given day. The client to search the Ancient Technology Database [ATD] is installed on all expedition computers and all informal and non-emergency searches should be conducted through that channel.

The AT Lab retains the right to name all deposited artifacts, which will be done according to the AT Classification Scheme when possible. Petitions for renaming any artifact must be submitted to Dr. Elizabeth Weir and should be reserved only for special cases of particular significance.
